About GarsCom
Our History
GarsCom, a non-profit community organization, began when Carol van Niekerk invited a few of her neighbours to the first meeting at her home, in 1998, with the hope of making her street a safe and secure place for residents to live. Her fellow neighbours were quick to follow her lead and together they became an unstoppable force with a common goal of fighting crime hand-in-hand. A community was born.
Today, GarsCom is proudly one of the biggest and most sustained, organized and successful communities in the whole of South Africa.
Our Approach
GarsCom learned vital lessons from the mistakes of many community associations and has developed an approach which addresses the security challenges faced by communities in a holistic and comprehensive manner by adopting a dedicated Community Managed Security model to crime prevention. The model establishes a partnership with a single preferred security company which conducts community proactive patrolling 24/7 utilizing dedicated resources such as a dedicated control room, vehicles and security officers. GarsCom's aim is to utilize this model to deliver the highest impact in sustainable community crime prevention.
